Mrs. Olwyn Joan Ackerman Vaughn
Mrs. Olwyn Joan Ackerman Vaughn, age 75, of 587 Harbin Drive, Mountain City died Tuesday, February 26, 2002, in the Johnson City Medical Center. She was a native of Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom. She was married for 57 years on Wednesday Feb. 20, 2002. She met her husband, Joel, while he was stationed in Cardiff and then came to America as a World War II GI Bride in l946. Olwyn and Joel were founding members of Hollow Road Baptist Church, Walkertown, NC where they resided on Davis Road for many years. She loved bird watching, growing roses and was an avid Q.V.C. watcher. Survivors Include: Husband: Joel Vaughn, of the home (4) Daughters: Jill Woodie, Taylorsville, NC; Gail Vaughn, Raleigh, NC; Karen Hall, Catawba, NC; Cheryll Arnold, Mountain City, TN (1) Sister: Sylvia Dudley, Cardiff, Wales; and "My Dear Annie" in Wales (7 ) Grandchildren: Derek Woodie, Orlando, FL; Angela Hawks, Princeton, WV; Kevin Griffin, Raleigh, NC; Jennifer Beaudet, Clarksville, TN; Corey Hall, Hilton Head, SC; Elizabeth Rose, Asheville, NC; Josh Hall, Hickory, NC. The family will receive friends from 1 till 2:00 PM Friday at Roan Creek Baptist Church, Mountain City, TN with the funeral services following at 2:00 PM with Rev. Derl McCloud to officiate. The family will also be receiving friends at the residence , 587 Harbin Drive, Mountain City, TN. Burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Park . Pallbearers will be: Corey Hall, Steve Beaudet, Willie Arnold, Carmen Perez, and Steve Bishop. Hux-Lipford Funeral Home are in charge of the arrangements.
